First Listen: Lalah Hathaway returns with the glorious new "So In Love"

(May 7, 2024) Lalah Hathaway has spent the last three decades building a musical legacy that is distinct from the one crafted by her legendary father, even as pays homage to him through the consistent high quality of her work. That quality has been recognized with multiple Grammy wins and collaborations with a who’s who list of jazz, R&B, pop, and hip-hop stars, ranging from Joe Sample and Robert Glasper to MC Lyte and Anderson.Paak, just to name a few.

Fans anticipating the release of her latest recording won’t have to wait long. Vantablack, her ninth solo project, is due to drop on June 14. However, “So In Love,” Vantablack’s lead single can be heard on all streaming platforms, and it is featured on this First Listen.

The track possesses an upbeat and bouncy melody that will make it an attractive listen for summer cookouts and steppers sets. “So In Love” finds Hathaway using her sensual vocals to express her adoration to her significant other. The song expresses emotions that people feel when a relationship is right in every viable way.

This song was right for Hathaway from an artistic standpoint. She and co-writer Philip Beaudreau penned “So In Love” a couple of years ago with the intent of pitching it to other artists. However, they decided to hold onto it, and Hathaway recently included “So In Love” in the set lists of her live shows.
