2009 SoulTracks Awards Finalists Named!
Hey SoulTrackers, the time has come! After a month of receiving nominations from you and having 2,000 soul music artists and industry people narrow the choices down, we finally have named our finalists for the 2009 SoulTracks Readers' Choice Awards, the world's most popular awards celebrating independent soul music! There were so many quality artists it was a tough job, but our committee narrowed it down to seven finalists in each category.
This year's SoulTracks Readers' Choice Awards will be broadcast on December 7th at 8:00 p.m., hosted by our good friend Jodine Dorce of Jodine's Corner (with special help from our friend Nina Morena of Fusicology). Stay tuned and we'll tell you all of the places you'll be able to hear the awards show.
And this year's awards will have a special purpose. This year we have adopted
Detroit's Cornerstone Schools, a series of three urban schools that have become a national model for how to education our children. 95% of Cornerstone students graduate from high school and each student begins musical training in third grade. So for each ballot cast in this year's Awards voting, SoulTracks will donate $1.00 to Cornerstone Schools. So every person who takes the time to vote among the deserving artists will also be helping a young student's education.
Here are this year's Awards finalists (all categories are for independent artists only, except for the Major Label Album of the Year):

Ok, I don't understand how
soulshadow55 - October 19th, 2009
Ok, I don't understand how Maxwell can be nominated for Major Label Album of the Year but not Album Of The Year? Also, why wasn't he nominated for Song of the Year? My Goodness, Pretty Wings and Bad Habit are all over the radio, internet, etc. Again, why no nomination for Male Vocalist of the Year? His CD has already gone platinum and he's breaking all kinds of music industry records. Especially for an artist who's been out of business for over 7 years to come back and do the CD sales and concert numbers that he's generated. He should have been nominated for all of the above. He's almost single-handily bringing back soul music and no nominations in these catagories?
He even replaced one number one song on the charts (Pretty Wings) with his other number one song (Bad Habits). So he replaced his own self on the charts!!! That's never been done before. Moreover, he's selling out all of the major venues he's performed in so far. Over 74 sold-out concerts during this tour. So what's up with that?

Hi I'm a fan of independent
4daLoveOfMusic - October 25th, 2009
Hi I'm a fan of independent soul music or should I say music... thought it was a great concept to give artists and the independent industry a chance to shine, I'm from Chicago and had the chance attend both Soultrack Awards "WHAT A SHOW" the first year the performances knock me off my feet Eric,Rahsaan,Phil,Conya,Masya,Mya,Gordon the band... I still think about that show. I didn't understand how the winners won, but hey it was worth the drive to Detroit. The 2nd year the word was out and it's a weekend event "Go to the Soultrack Awards." I'm in the house, I'm like aw shoot lights! camera! action! big screen tv! I thought I was at the MTV awards, once again the acts were hot Heston,Liv Warfield,Sy Smith,Conya Doss,Algebra,Phil, and the winners were right on point that year didn't understand the split with Algebra and April Hill and why the lifetime award winners walk out right after they received their award. How rude!!! I was like man is this going to be like the Soul track's first award show, but anyhow I was looking forward for this year's show, even after I sat through that Saturday night show?? I didn't understand the acts and it was not a night to remember. Good luck to all the nominees this year but lets keep it real
