First Listen – R’mone Entonio Delivers A “Forever Kinda Love”

(January 28, 2017) It’s always nice to listen to a classic jazzy soul composition that only requires you to sigh and settle into the trusted artist’s capable hands. The light-footed R’mone Entonio’s magnificent gift, an agile baritone that isn’t weighed down by the heaviness of his instrument, is once again on dazzling display with the equally talented Marcus Anderson’s musicianship. With a debut EP that was one of SoulTracks’ “Best of the Year” in 2015, Unorthodox Soul, and a flawless single, “Without You,” that was nominated for a 2016 Song of the Year Reader’s Choice Award, the North Carolina-based singer had us enthralled from our very first listen.

In 2017, R’mone Entonio’s continues that trend of not letting us down by delivering yet another winner with his latest single, “Forever Kinda Love.” Opening with a plucky upright bass and fluttering our hearts with willowy woodwinds, the jazz and soul production opens up quickly with crisp finger snaps, tap dancing handclaps, synthy keys, tinkling ivories, and discretely placed horns that accent rather than overwhelm. In star position is Entonio’s swinging with confidence leads, supple three-part harmonies, churchy calls and response, and just enough accenting riffs and runs to let you know this jazz vocalist is capable of going COGIC too if the bars call for it. The whole composition bursts with swaggering energy of the grown man variety. It helps that the top-notch musicians, the producer, and engineer all did right by this unique voice and arrangement. If this keeps up, we’ll have a “Forever Kinda Love” with R’mone Entonio.
