December 28, 2016 -- Welcome to Another Groove, our series dedicated to new music that is neither pure soul nor R&B, but which contains elements of those genres, by artists generally categorized outside the soul arena. This installment we feature the track “Night & Day” by Jon Allen.
Allen is a London-based singer/songwriter and guitarist who released his debut album, Dead Man’s Suit, in 2009. He has a big, distinctive voice with a slight raspiness reminiscent of a young Rod Stewart. His music is a lovely mix of acoustic-driven folk/rock, with occasional forays into other rhythms, and has been featured on BBC Radio and in national advertising campaigns. Allen has also appeared on the UK’s leading live music TV program, Later with Jools Holland, and he has shared stages with Seal, Emmylou Harris, and Mark Knopfler, among others.

The featured track, taken from Allen’s latest album, Deep River, starts off as finger-picked folk/pop ballad before easing into a gentle, head-nodding R&B groove. Enjoy.
