Keith Urban has soul?  Don't shake your heads, Soultrackers, and bear with me awhile.

(November 27, 2016) Welcome to Another Groove, our series dedicated to introducing new music that is neither pure soul nor R&B, but which includes some elements of those genres, by artists generally categorized outside the soul arena. Lest you've been living under a rock for several years, you’ll know that Urban is a Grammy-award-winning singer/songwriter, guitarist and host of American Idol who has been a mainstay on the country charts since the release of his eponymous, platinum-selling debut album in 1999.  Urban’s music is an inviting mix of country/rock and pop that pleases like a buttery Chardonnay on a Summer afternoon, and his latest album, Ripcord, is no exception.  But Urban stretches his legs a bit on the new album to experiment with rhythms, sounds and textures that are beyond his usual comfort zone.

We feature here Urban’s track “The Fighter,” an infectious, hip-shaking duet with Carrie Underwood that is powered by programmed drums and an unmistakeable R&B groove.  Underwood’s vocal in particular is authentic and ferocious, and Urban shows there’s decidedly a ‘lil soul in his country.  If you're a fan of Justin Timberlake’s brand of R&B, you’re likely also to find this track appealing.  Enjoy.
