(October 4, 2016).  Welcome to the fifth installment of our Another Groove series, dedicated to introducing new music that is neither "pure" soul nor R&B but which includes some elements of those genres, often rhythmic, by artists generally categorized outside of the soul arena. This week we feature the track “A Normal Human Being” by Taylor John Williams, recorded live and available only on YouTube.

Williams is a singer/songwriter and guitarist from Portland, Oregon who in 2014 reached the semi-finals on NBC’s reality singing program The Voice under the guiding hand of Gwen Stefani.  Williams has since recorded 2 independent EPs, the most recent of which, Hiraeth, was released in July.  His music is an alluring blend of folk, pop and soul, topped by his sweet and supple vocals and spine-tingling falsetto.  When Williams begins singing, you stop whatever you’re doing and listen.  Our featured track is his bluesy and haunting ode to his girl, who is roaming the city and a little dangerous. Enjoy.
