(February 5, 2017) “I am sick and tired of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a short nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation. War is hell.” Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman

In the short film “Curse of War” (produced by Phillipa Davis and Ronnie Graham), Marine Sgt. James Powell lives daily with the mental hell that is the result of his tour in the Middle East as a part of the nation’s most recent wars. The PTSD that results from the things he saw and did while in the heat of battle have left him estranged from his wife and two children, seeking psychological help from a mental health professional while medicating his physical and emotional pain with prescription drugs and alcohol. The short film is directed by Abdul Malik Abbott and was shot in the New York City area.

The film includes a soulful and mournful track titled “Let It All Go,” by the New York band B.O.S.S, which was founded by bassist, filmmaker and music video director Abbott (DJ Abby Ab) and vocalist, actress and  dancer Natalie (Natalieq) Rand. DJ Abby Ab and Natalieq describe the song possessing the topical relevance of a Gil-Scot Heron cut combined with the sophisticated musical arrangements and vocals of Sade. The track is driven by Abbott’s funk infused bass line and the Natalieq’s lovely vocals. Check it out.
