Anyone in a long-term relationship over the age of 30 understands two things: one, the dopamine-induced 'crazy-in-love' phase eventually cools down, and two, there are times when you don't exactly feel warm, fuzzy and lovey-dovey about that man or that woman. Musiq Soulchild, in his decade-plus career of crooning love songs, realizes this and encapsulates those less-than-ideal emotions into the first single of his upcoming seventh solo project, Life On Earth.

The Philly-born Taalib Johnson has always been one of the quirkiest of the neo-soul set and able to make the simplest lyrics into sweet and memorable soul faves ("Love," "143," "Teach Me," "Yes"); fans will likely gravitate to Musiq's latest due to its relatable premise, smooth and sincere conveyance ("I don't always understand everything about you, but I know I just can't live without you") and an oft-repeated refrain ("I do I do I do I do I do") that, depending on the mood, will make listeners remember the good points in their sweetie and why, after a long absence, Mr. Soulchild is so welcome to return.
