(January 26, 2017) Chris Shaw, a.k.a. Topher James, could have gone a lot of direction with his musical career, but the son of a music teacher and a librarian has always been heavily influence by soul music. And that influence comes through in his music with his band Topher James and the Biscuit Brigade.

He straddles the line between soul and pop on his newest single, “Hard Love.” Chris tells us: "'Hard Love' is my continual struggle with this relationship with music. It's a constant battle balancing the business and the art of it all. I have a two year old now, so finding time to write alone is almost impossible. A lot of my songs end up being questions about life and love and where I want to go, and how to keep it all together. With music I think we model ourselves after our heroes the Stevie Wonders the Sam Cookes the Justin Timberlakes but I ask myself how do I reach these lofty goals of success yet be happy exactly where I am?
