They had us at hello or rather at “Gwan.” Even before that, last February, a live version of “Giver” by The Suffers made its way into our hearts and onto the After Valentines Mix of LMG’s Soul Eclectics music podcast. Nearly a year later, in anticipation of the release of their 2015 debut EP, Make Some Room, the band is back again with another live Gulf Coast Soul performance to whet your appetite. The second you hear Kam Franklin’s mahogany soul voice fronting that ginormous 10-piece band, you’re instantly transported to the days of blue lights in the basement and a time when people regularly slow danced with well placed hands in a gentle sway. It’s all in the classic soul tradition in feel and sound.

Whether it’s the live version of “Giver” or the live take below on the project’s opening track, it’s fine if you mistake their video clips for ‘70s throwback tapes from shows like Midnight Special, Soul Train, or the iconic Soul! They’re not. Hot off the presses, this clip was posted last month as part of the Texas Motorway Speedway Fast Track to Fame, and it’s from an EP you’ll want in your collection once it drops on Jan. 20th of this year.
