N'dambi

Biography

Official Biography  (courtesy of N'dambi)

Born in Dallas, Texas to a singing family, N'dambi was encouraged to sing and play piano at an early age. Her talents are multi-faceted; incorporating singing, songwriting and producing, as well as writing short stories, poetry and novels.

A sultry storyteller, N'dambi is able to evoke the spiritual essence of a musical era past.  She rekindles our relationship with 'soul music' flawlessly as her rich voice resounds the energies of soul sisters like Nina Simone, Tina Turner and Chaka Khan.   Her poetic lyrics, coupled with her uniquely divine vocal abilities captivate listeners into a hypnotic mantra of soulful melodies.

To this end, N'dambi has toured as a background vocalist for Grammy award-winning Erykah Badu and played a pivotal role in all of her recordings.  She appears on Ms. Badu's platinum-selling debut album "Baduizm" and on "Erykah Badu Live" as well as the music videos "On & On", "Next Lifetime" and "Tyrone".   She also co-wrote one track entitled "Hey Sugah" on Ms. Badu's Mama's Gun".

Aided by her recognition and accolades while performing with Ms. Badu, N'dambi embarked on a solo career by launching her own label, Cheeky-I Productions.  In 1999, she released her critically acclaimed debut album, "Little Girl Blues" which has sold over 70,000 units to date.  Her sophomore project, "Tunin Up & Cosignin" is a beautiful, moving and soul stirring double CD full of poetic imagery and introspective lyrics.  With live instrumentation, this CD takes you first hand into the studio with N'dambi as she and her talented band, the Dallas based production collective "Camp Wisdom", weave an eclectic potpourri ranging from gospel to country and everything in between.  Both albums received international recognition resulting high profile festival and club performances throughout the United States, France, England, Holland, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy and Japan.

N'dambi aims to make timeless music that lyrically endures the industry paradigm of one-hit commercial sensationalism.  Music that successfully transitions across genres.  Music of soul, heart and substance that N'dambi celebrates with the same conviction and surrender exemplified in her striking photo on the cover of Marc Baptiste's "Beautiful": Pure, honest and free.
