Official Biography (courtesy of Steve Burks)

Soul artist Steve Burks measures the impact of his songs by asking the question, "What would the legends think?" A Top-5 finalist in the Vibe Magazine/Levi's 501 Talent Search, Steve is a native of Gary, Indiana, vocalist, composer, 20-year gospel musician, and old-school rapper (which means he thinks lyrics are the most important thing). He graduated from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and went on to receive a Masters in African American Studies, for which he wrote his thesis about soul music and conscious hip-hop.

Steve has coached rhythm sections for the IU Soul Revue (a collegiate black popular music ensemble with celebrity alumni), taught music for the Dallas Independent School District, and arranged for Cherry Lane music publishing. Steve is a member of the Recording Academy (Grammy) and the American Composers Forum.
