Al Goodman of Ray Goodman & Brown dies
It is with immense sorrow that we inform SoulTrackers that Al Goodman, one-third of Ray, Goodman & Brown as well as the Moments ("Love on a Two Way Street"), has died due to complications from surgery. Part of two of the most underrated soul groups of the past half century, Goodman provided the "bottom end" on hits such as "Special Lady" and "Take It To the Limit." We had gotten to know Al here at SoulTracks, and he was a wonderful man and a consummate entertainer. He often wrote to us to tell us about the newest happenings with the group and always expressed a deep love for the audiences who had supported him throughout his career. All of the deaths of soul music greats so far in 2010 have hurt, but this one brings particular pain to us.
Funeral services for Al will be Monday August 2 at:
John Harms/Bergen PAC Theatre
30 North Van Brunt
Englewood, NJ 07631
Phone: 210-816-8160
Service Hours:
Wake: 9AM - 11AM
Service: 11AM- 1PM
Ray Goodman and Brown. Part of the generation of soul music groups that arose in the late 60s and early 70s, the combination of Harry Ray, Al Goodman and Billy Brown became most notable as perhaps the greatest live performing group of that elite bunch. While many groups of that era had more successful recording careers, few have equaled the stage presence and consistent crowd pleasing shows of RG&B. Read More...

As I said above, this death really hurts. Al was one of the most consistently upbeat people I've dealt with since we started SoulTracks. And if you've ever seen Ray Goodman & Brown live, you've seen the best there is onstage. We will miss him dearly.

I am so saddened to learn Mr. Goodman's passing. RG&B is one of my favorite groups. I saw RG&B in concert once and they were awesome. Talk about showmanship, personality, and raw talent. Thank you so much for giving us quality music that's timeless. God Bless.

I am sadden by the death of Al Goodman. I remember the days back at the Sugar Shack in Boston where they used to perform. We always had a great time with them when they came to town. This is another great loss to the music world. My condolences go out to Al's family and to the Moments. We are with you always.

"Special Lady" was the song I played for my wife-to-be on our engagement party night. The Moments and then Ray, Goodman and Brown was our group in the 70's, 80's, ask my kids that were born in the 90's? My hat's off to you sir and may your soul rest in peace, God bless and guide your family.. You'll be missed... Mount Vernon, The Apollo, Hampton, Va. and Dayton, OH. THANK YOU!!

Wow,I was shocked when I heard Lenny Green say on Monday that Al Goodman had passed, my mind went to my first encounter with the Moments as they were known at the time. I was 15 yrs. old and the song was "I Do", it's still one of my favorites today. Shortly after that I saw The Moments in person at the RKO Proctor Theater in Newark,NJ; and from that day they were my favorite group with the Delfonics as my 2nd best group. I went to every show they performed in Newark & New York,I got the opportunity to meet them and get to know them personally, Johnny Moore was with them at that time. The memories of those times will stay with me a lifetime. Al, Rest in Peace..and to Billy I know how close you and Al were, my prayers are with you.
Love Gwen

I truly enjoyed seeing Ray, Goodman & Brown in Cincinnati earlier this year. Al made everyone laugh out loud before they wowed us with their songs. All of the artist from my favorite 60's-70's R&B groups are passing away. Saddness fills my heart. My prayers go out to Al's family. Gods will be done. We don't always understand it...

I thought that losing Harry Ray was hard this is heart breaking because it's like losing a family member. Al was a leading and motivator . Our history goes back to 1968 I've been fan since I was 16 yrs old and still a hugh fan . The last time I spoke to Al I told him to take care of himself and and he did but God had a bigger plan . Now Al and Harry and others can continue to make more great music . The positive part of he's leaving is he left us so much Magical Music that we live on further then us.To all who don't know Al wrote so much of their music he was a musical genius a" Hit Creator" To watch and listen to the guys was true magic you never wanted it to stop and they didn't either yes he will be Missed .

Mir wurde die bestellte CD ("A Moment With Friends") original unterschrieben zugesandt. Danke!!!

HARLEM AFTER MIDNITE - July 31st, 2010
Bless the family and the genius of one of the greatest members of a 3 man group of all times that has enhance the music industry for decades. My memory of Al Goodman will always be a cherish one, due to his appearance and the arrival with Kevin and Billy at our station WHCR 90.3FM NEW YORK RADIO on "THE LOVE ZONE" hosted by Maurice Watts, we requested for the trio to do some studio drops for both of our shows and their showmanship didn't take long for the harmonizing trio to activate their masterpiece and that's my memorable moment with the trio and their professionalism with the keen sensual vocalism of Al Goodman it has been a great loss to the music industry just like all others who have pass the torch to meet their saviour. Our condolences goes out to the family Friends and fans world wide for the Awesome...TRIO THE MOMENTS.
