(October 18, 2017) For over a year, we've been praying for the health of R&B great Denise LaSalle. Last year we learned that LaSalle is suffering from congestive heart failure, but was recovering from a difficult spell.

Unfortunately, LaSalle is now back in the hospital at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, and has had to have her leg amputated. The hospital issued the following statement: “Recently, Denise LaSalle found herself in one of her greatest health battles of her life. Moving from a hospital in her beloved hometown of Jackson, Tennessee, to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Miss LaSalle was presented with the medical decision of having her right leg amputated to prevent further medical complications. Upon hearing the news, she never cringed, but instead instructed her medical professionals to proceed with the best possible direction for her health.”

The Mississippi born LaSalle has been labeled by many as the “Queen of the Blues.” She first came to attention of music fans with recordings on Chess Records in the late 60s, but became a household name in 1971 with the #1 smash, “Trapped By A Thing Called Love.”

LaSalle proved over that decade that she was not only a great singer, but also a top notch songwriter and producer. She continued to chart big for two decades with hits like “Man Sized Job,” “Now Run And Tell That” “My Toot Toot” and “Love Me Right.”

While her commercial success had peaked by 1990, LaSalle continued to record and perform regularly around the world. She has also become a restauranteur through her Blues Legend Café. She has won countless awards and is a member of the Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame.

LaSalle has issued the following uplifting statement to her fans: "Miss LaSalle would like for her fans and musical community to know that she has undergone her surgery and emerged still trapped by the wonderful thing called love. And as long as there is love, the love that she has for her fans and the love that they have for her, the future will remain a bright and worthy destination.

Let’s all keep this legendary star in our prayers.
