Detroit area road to be renamed “Jackie Wilson Lane” in August ceremony

    The late, great Jackie Wilson will be honored, and Cottage Grove Street will be renamed “Jackie Wilson Lane,” in a ceremony to be held on Saturday, August 20 in the City of Highland Park, Michigan.

    Jackie Wilson was born and raised in Highland Park. His unique style of entertainment influenced countless stars, from Elvis Presley to Michael Jackson. He also became the first major artist for whom Berry Gordy, Jr. wrote songs, ultimately leading to the formation of the Motown record label.

    The renaming ceremony will feature a number of musical stars, including Mary Wilson of the Supremes, Bishop Rance Allen, Joe Billingslea & the Contours, guitarist Billy Davis, and the Stubbs Girls.
