"Troglodyte" singer Jimmy Castor dies

(January 17, 2012)  Jimmy Castor, known for his funky -- and funny -- hits during the 70s, has died in Las Vegas at age 64.

As the leader of the Jimmy Castor Bunch, he topped the charts with such cuts as the humorous "Troglodyte (Cave Man)" and "The Bertha Butt Boogie."

Castor, who was often referred to as "E-Man" or "Everything Man," started as a singer and saxophonist in New York, and first achieved notoriety working with Frankie Lymon, for whom he also wrote the hit "I Promise to Remember."  But it was his solo work and work leading the Jimmy Castor Bunch that won fans all over the world. Other hits included "King Kong," "Potential" and "Hey Leroy, Your Mama's Callin' You," with many of his songs being later sampled by hip-hop artists.
