We've just learned of the death of DC-native singer and bassist Tyrone Brunson. Brunson broke onto the scene with the 1983 instrumental dance smash, "The Smurf," which became a club favorite in New York and elsewhere. He followed with the single "Sticky Situation" and the accompanying album did well on the R&B charts. Brunson was never able to again hit those heights, though he had a moderate hit the following year with the single "Fresh."

After 1987's Love Triangle, Brunson's major label recording career was over. He continued in music as a backing vocalist (most notably for Levert) before fading from the scene.

While Brunson only had a short time in the sun, he was a talented musician who had us all dancing and smiling for a few years. He will be missed.
