(October 24, 2017) Trumpeter Christopher Lowery and his twin brother Wesley Lowery, a drummer, grew up in Philadelphia, a city that has long been a hotbed of jazz, R&B and hip-hop music. John Coltrane, The Stylistics, The Intruders, The Roots, Jill Scott and Musiq Soulchild are among the musical luminaries who have called the City of Brotherly Love home. The two musicians also received their musical lessons at home from their father, who is also a drummer. Chris studied for a while at Delaware State University before joining his brother at Long Island State University where their talents soon drew other skilled musicians into their orbit.

John Coltrane, The Stylistics, The Intruders, The Roots, Jill Scott and Musiq Soulchild are among the musical luminaries who have called the City of Brotherly Love home. The two musicians also received their musical lessons at home from their father, who is also a drummer. Chris studied for a while at Delaware State University before joining his brother at Long Island State University where their talents soon drew other skilled musicians into their orbit.
Eventually these musicians became a group called the Supa Lowery Brothers Band – an ensemble that has explored the confluence of jazz, R&B and hip-hop over the last decade. Their latest song is a funky bit of Philly love that features fellow Philadelphian Musiq Soulchild lending his rangy voice to a tune titled “Gimme Your Love.” The track finds the brothers and their band mates falling deep into a laid back 1970s mid-tempo groove. It’s straight analog that features some inspired drumming by Wes and creative improvisation by Chris on the trumpet. Check it out.
