July 17, 2022 – Welcome to Another Groove, our series dedicated to new music that is neither pure soul nor R&B but which has elements of those genres and may please your ears.  This week we feature the track “Vanilla” by Burna Boy.

Burna is a Nigerian, Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and producer who released his debut album, L.I.F.E., in 2013.  He characterizes his music as “Afro-fusion,” and his tracks are a delicious mélange of hip hop, pop, Afrobeat, R&B and reggae.  Our featured track from his new album, Love, Damini, finds Burna adding jazz accents to his usual palette via some soulful sax soloing by Tony Mars.  His vocals here are a mix of Yoruba and English, but you won't need a translator to figure out that Burna’s not singing about vanilla ice cream.  Enjoy.
