October 2, 2018 – Welcome to Another Groove, our series dedicated to new music that is neither pure soul nor R&B but which contains elements of those genres and may please your ears. This week we introduce the delightful Fatoumata Diawara.

Diawara is a Malian singer, songwriter, actress and guitarist now based in Paris. Her debut album, Fatou, put her on the map almost immediately and was ranked the #1 world music album of 2011 by the UK’s Sunday Times. Her music is a blend of West African and European influences, with occasional funk, dance and R&B accents, all supporting her warm, engaging and soulful voice.  We feature here her live performance last month of “Bonya,” a track from her recently-released second album Fenfo, and the enchanting “Bissa,” the lead single from her debut. Enjoy.
