April 13, 2020 – Welcome to Another Groove, our series dedicated to new music that is neither pure soul nor R&B but which includes elements of those genres and may please your ears. This week we feature the track “Right” by Mac Miller.

Everyone has their demons. Some propel us to greatness, others sidetrack us, and still others ultimately can take us down. The hellhounds on the late Mac Miller’s trail accomplished all of those things, but his music endures. Miller was a prodigious rapper, singer and songwriter whose music laid bare his life and struggles on a table of hip hop, soul, pop and R&B.

At the time of Miller’s death in September 2018, he was working with the producer Jon Brion on a new album, Circles, which Brion completed and released with the Miller family’s blessing in January of this year. Our featured track finds Miller supported by the gifted bassist Thundercat, who adds a winding groove beneath Miller’s woozy and warm vocals. Enjoy.
