April 18, 2017 – Welcome to the next installment of Another Groove, our series dedicated to new music that is neither pure soul nor R&B but which contains elements of those genres and may delight your ears. This week we feature the new single “Wilderness” by Maritri Garrett, with Marcus Machado producing and providing lead guitar.

Garrett is a singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and the leader of the SoulFolk Experience. She has opened for Gladys Knight, has sung alongside Patti LaBelle, Barbara Streisand, and Nina Simone, and has performed as both a cellist and pianist. Her music lives in the spaces between folk, soul and blues, with her sweet, clear voice shining like a beacon. Machado is the 2014 winner of Rolling Stone magazine’s “Next Young Gun” guitar competition and a longtime sideman and collaborator for R&B artists like the Family Stand and the Weather Report's Victor Bailey.

The featured track radiates the warmth of 70’s era acoustic folk amid some tasty lead work by Machado, who adds guitar licks reminiscent of the Allman’s Dickey Betts.  Enjoy.
