“It’s been too long, since you’ve been gone, I’m all alone – I miss you.  Come back home”! – Monifah “Moods….Moments”, 1996

Yes family, it has been awhile since we’ve heard from our girl Monifah!  I know I hear what you’re saying “wait Avery, she’s on R&B Divas, and she was on the R&B Divas compilation CD!”  Yes, of course you’re correct.  However, as for the music scene, she’s been missed for 14 years.  But our girl is back and she is ready to set the charts on fire.  Her new single, “The Other Side” is from her upcoming album; and after her dope performance, I sat down with Monifah to discuss her musical whereabouts; and to see what we can expect from our R&B Diva.

AD:  Hello Monifah!  First of all, that was a great show and congratulations on your new nuptials.

    Monifah:  Thank you, thank you.

AD:  You look so very happy.  So tell me more about your forthcoming CD.

Monifah:  I’m working so hard, yet having so much fun doing it.   I have the single “The Other Side” out and it’s currently available - so go get it, go get it, go get it.  It’s receiving really good responses.  I’ve riding and pushing that, and getting a video ready for it as well.  It’s about the music right now.

    AD:  Ok, ok.  That’s beautiful.

Monifah:  I know, I know.  “I’s married now and everything that comes with it, is giving me great joy.  I have a great support system; and I feel just great.

AD:  When should we expect to hear your full project?

Monifah:  Probably in the fall.  I’m an independent [artist] but things change.  So I’m going to really try to make certain its finished by the fall.

AD:  That’s awesome, because I definitely support independent artists and what they do. It’s so difficult out here.

Monifah:  Thank you, thank you.  We appreciate you.

AD:  Ok, I may be aging myself but I must tell you I still have the “Ol’ School “ Monifah on my iPod.

    Monifah:  The very first one?

AD:  Yes, the one where you’re sitting in the bathtub and your “duet” with the late Heavy D.  God rest his soul.  So have you collaborated with anyone on your upcoming CD?

Monifah:  Not yet but I’m not going to rule that out since I would absolutely love to.  So we’ll see.  I’m working with some really fresh producers.  I mean they saw something  [in me] and they believe in the project as well;  so we’re making it happen.  Q. Worthy and Anthony Jiles, my 2 main men and “em  are working with me to make this project successful.  It’s about having a team that believes in you from start to finish.

AD:  Ok cool, cool.  I know I said I was going to keep this brief, so what message do you have for your fans?

Monifah:  Thank you!!  Thank you for still wanting to hear “Mo”.  Thank you for lifting me up, waiting and being excited that I’m back on the scene.  Thank you for all of the love you’ve shown.  I appreciate it and it doesn’t go unnoticed.  I feel very blessed.

AD:  I hear you; and again you look great, and so happy.  May God bless you, and thank you for this opportunity.

Monifah:  Thank you for the support.
