(September 4, 2021) Okay, this one has been a long time coming. Since I heard the song “Love Hurts” from Detroit singer Beth Griffith-Manley, who performs as Beth,  I’ve been itching to review new music from her. And that itch gets scratched with the fun new single “The Greatest Part of Loving You,” a spotlight single from the upcoming collection, Soul School Vol. 1 from Showship Records.

Soul School is a musical look at writer and producer Adell “Showboat” Shavers, another Detroit great whose collection of nine songs features a houseful of great musicians as well as longtime SoulTracks favorite singers like Lynne Fiddmont and Kimberly Brewer.

For “The Greatest Part,” a hot rhythm section gets the party started, opening for Beth to deliver a knockout performance, enhanced by the cool work of saxman Dave McMurray.

This is the kind of timeless R&B that would have worked in the 70s but sounds just as fresh in the 20s. Listen to “The Greatest Part of Loving You” below, and then check out the full Soul School project.
