Bigg Milt

Official Biography (courtesy of Bigg Milt)

Bigg Milt was raised on Chicago's notorious South Side at a time in American history when Black message music shouted out to the world. He listened intently to the music and messages of Gil Scott Heron's Watergate Blues, the Staple Singers' Respect Yourself, Marvin Gaye's Inner City Blues and Curtis Mayfield's We're A Winner. Today, Bigg Milt is one of the most in demand motivational speakers for young people in America, speaking to more than 200,000 students every year.

Bigg Milt is a Renaissance Man on a singular mission: motivate, inspire, and educate young Americans. He has left no medium unturned-from his stint as the host of a national t.v. talk show, PBS's Parenting Works (he is one of only five black men to achieve this distinction); to developer and star of the Covenant Award-winning t.v. docudrama Masquerade: Unveiling Our Deadly Dance With Drugs and Alcohol; to star of the made for t.v. movie Pumpkin Man; to author of the popular parenting book Nobody Wants Your Child. Most recently Bigg Milt has added music to his focus.

After recalling a panel discussion he participated in with a number of major rap producers and black radio personalities at the legendary "Jack the Rapper" music conference in the 80's, Milt decided to pull music into his arsenal.

After many attempts at putting together the proper mix of the right message with the right music Bigg Milt joined forces with acclaimed Grammy Award-winning producers Bobby Ross Avila and Issaiah Avila (IZ) and began the Unspoken project. The Avila Brothers developed their craft under the tutelage of legendary producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Bobby and IZ have composed and produced for major artists such as Usher, Anthony Hamilton, Janet Jackson, Mary J. Blige, El Debarge, the Isley Brothers, Patti LaBelle, Earth, Wind & Fire, Chaka Khan, Avant, and others.

Committed to making Unspoken the best music project of its type, Bigg Milt brought in powerhouse songwriter Luke Boyd, who has written for such stars as Britney Spears, Ruben Studdard, Tank, Charlie Wilson, Chris Brown, and Justin Bieber. Luke is also featured as a singer on two of the tracks, Granddaddy and Block Party. Three-time Video Music Award-winning director Life Garland signed on to direct the first video from Unspoken, What's Going On?, which starred fellow activist and SAG Award-winning actor Isaiah Washington (Grey's Anatomy, Romeo Must Die).

Known internationally for his fiery, hard hitting oratory Bigg Milt has spoken in 49 U. S. states, the District of Columbia, the Caribbean, Canada, Panama and South Africa. He has spoken at NFL Super Bowls, NCAA Final Four tournaments, prisons, homeless shelters, universities and high schools, and he has been invited to the White House by two different U.S. presidents. Bigg Milt is one of the few speakers who has been paired on programs with major entertainers such as Fred Hammond, k. d. lang, CeCe Winans, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DC Talk, Immature, Lee Greenwood, Michael W. Smith and the legendary Shirley Caesar.

Bigg Milt is not a singer nor is he a rapper. What he is, is the best pure motivator for young people in the world. He has been repeatedly referred to as the "best kept secret in America" yet over 8 million people have heard him speak live.

Bigg Milt is not now and never will be, "politically correct." But he is real. He is not a preacher, but his words will convict some. And, he believes that too many things that need to be said in our society have been left Unspoken. That is about to change.
