(March 17, 2023) SoulTrackers have been following guitarist Michael J. Calhoun for over four decades, through his time with Kinsman Dazz to The Dazz Band to his solo career and his more recent time making hits with BluDazz.
As we move through 2023, Calhoun continues to deliver great R&B music, now via the historic Kinsman Dazz Band on the new single “It’s On Tonite.”
Calhoun tells us, "This song is a tribute to 70s Soul Funk. Marvin Gaye was our first producer for a few sessions, then Philip Bailey (EWF) and Tommy Vicari (Prince) took the helm when Marvin Gaye got sick and bowed out. The influence from those icons is still with me to this day. Silk Sonic, Bruno Mars and other Neo Soul artists inspired me to take back some of our grooves and melodies and reclaim R&B relevance again."
Featuring the powerful sax work of Russell Thompson alternating with lead vocals from Calhoun and Ronnie B, it’s a cut that combines a funky underpinning with a late night groove that we’re absolutely loving.
