August 15, 1992 - Boyz II Men begin 13 weeks at #1 with "End of The Road"

First as a quartet and then as a trio, Boyz II Men has created a seemingly endless collection of great songs over more than three decades in the spotlight. And today celebrates one of the act's biggest achievements.

It was on this day in 1992 that the group began a 13 week run at the #1 spot on the US singles chart with “End Of The Road," the big ballad that was part of the Eddie Murphy soundtrack album Boomerang. That broke a record for length of a #1 song that had been held by Elvis Presley for more than three and one half decades.

Written by the hitmaking trio of Babyface, L.A. Reid and Daryl Simmons, “End of The Road” not only established the record for longevity at Number One, it became the biggest selling single of 1992. However, its record didn’t last long: Just a year later, Whitney Houston topped the chart for 14 weeks with her own soundtrack single, “I Will Always Love” you from The Bodyguard.

Boyz II Men got their chart revenge in 1995, when their duet with Mariah Carey, “One Sweet Day,” took the top spot for 16 weeks, a record that stayed intact for more than two more decades, until it was broken in 2019 by Lil Nas X with his odd hip-hop/country single, “Old Town Road.”
