Dorinda Clark-Cole of the legendary Clark Sisters has released a solo effort titled Take It Back.  This CD comes close on the heels of the "farewell" project from the sisters, which was an excellent project garnering several Dove Award nominations, a Grammy and several Stellar Awards.

The first two tracks of the disc ("Faithful" and "Yesterday") are nice enough songs, with decent melodies and musical arrangements; they do not rise to the level that one expects from this legendary family.  Things start to get better on "Got To Hold On" and the title track, two cuts that allow you to groove for a bit and get your praise on until you're satisfied.

However, the real payoff where you can to experience the pureness of Dorinda's vocal talents is on the tracks "Make Me Real" and "If I Were," two of the album's most enjoyable songs.  Clark-Cole also shows her "old school" church roots on the fantastic "No Weapon," before switching over to "new school" on the next track, "Return."  This tune, with added talents J. Moss, Karen Clark-Sheard and PAJAM, has the potential to be a breakaway hit.

The entire CD, while not remarkable, does showcase some vintage Dorinda Clark-Cole ministry.  There is a bit of a rushed feel to the disc that makes it something less than an "essential" release of this legendary artist.

    Mildly recommended.
