(November 30, 2021) A song can have multiple meanings and that leaves interpretation up to the listener. Of course, the songwriter knows intimately the story, backstory and deeper hidden meanings behind the tune. Teddy Grossman’s soulful single “Ready” is a straightforward story about a guy who feels that he’s ready to dispense with the pretenses and façade and open himself to love – with all of its attendant risks and rewards.

But after reading this talented singer/songwriter’s biography, I see a deeper meaning behind this brassy, mid-tempo soul throwback. Grossman comes from a musical family. His grandfather and dad both were highly skilled musicians who put their dreams on the back burner to hold down a steady job. In the case of Grossman’s grandfather, his steady, day job was as a lawyer who by night wrote the song “Why Should I Pretend” that was recorded by Louis Prima.

Grossman’s father never fully pursued his music dream and Teddy Grossman went into the corporate world after graduating from the University of Michigan in 2009. He worked in the tech world for nearly a decade before deciding that the family’s musical dreams had been deferred long enough.

“Ready,” showcases an artist who is more than ready to make his mark in the music world. Grossman spent his younger days studying the music of Otis Redding, Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan and The Band and he proves to be a good pupil. Check out Teddy Grossman’s “Ready” here.
