(July 8, 2019) Dawn Claudette Rose confidently mapped out her career goals from childhood.  It started with poetry at age nine, which translated to songwriting and recording original material in a “homegrown studio,” to backing instrumental tracks from her father’s record player.  Then there was the obsession with hip-hop artists from Run D.M.C. to MC Lyte, where Rose utilized her streetwise dancing skills opening for top-notch rappers such as Naughty by Nature.  In completing her artistry package, a strong interest in fashion led to designing her performance wardrobe.  Eventually, Rose chose to pursue that first love of singing and songwriting while studying her passion of fashion in Canada.  After returning to her hometown of London, the singer/songwriter, now called D.C.R., waxed her debut E.P.

From the self-released project comes our latest First Listen, “Positive Vibes,” a song that recalls old school eighties-nineties U.K. soul (Soul II Soul, Brand New Heavies).  The accompanying video for “Positive Vibes” shows off D.C.R.’s affection for dancing as she leads young ladies in some hip-hop line moves.  The light synthesizer punches, electric piano drips and guitar underpinnings compliment D.C.R.’s powerful soulful injections and impressive backing vocals for this positive take on securing that strong man in the name of love.  A jazzy synth solo caps off “Positive Vibes,” an enjoyable introduction to D.C.R., who embraces her devotion to the arts and drops a gentle, refreshing breath of soul music old and new school listeners can embrace.
