Live Performance of the Month: Acantha Lang rocks up "He Said/She Said"

If Chaka Kahn sang a protest song while being backed by Tower of Power, that would be pretty doggone good. But even that pairing would be hard to top Acantha Lang’s debut number “He Said/She Said.” The tune is a high energy examination of a world where there is no shortage of information and opinion – much of it coming from the feedback loops of Facebook, Twitter or 24 hour cable news – but a paucity of reason and truth.

Lang’s soulful and bluesy sound comes honestly. She was born in New Orleans and trained in the unforgiving New York music scene before moving across the Pond to London to form her own hard charging band. We know that folks in places such as London appreciate that on-the-one, brassy soul and funk music. Europeans like hearing someone who can do some real soul sangin’ and Acantha Lang has those chops.

And it is from her perch in London that she observes what is happening on the political scene here and there. What she saw and heard inspired the song “He Said, She Said.” "‘He Said/She Said’ is a song inspired by the relentless onslaught of misinformation and fake news that circulates in these times. “I wrote this song two years ago, and if anything it’s only gotten worse. We literally don’t know what to believe anymore. Writing this song was my way of venting my frustrations about not knowing who or what to believe when you turn on the TV, pick up magazines, or scroll through social media. But hey…the song still had to be funky! I’m from New Orleans!”

We love the song, but are over the moon about the live performance that was captured on it. So much so, we have made it our Live Performance of the Month. Check out “He Said/She Said” here.
