(February 11, 2018) We first wrote about uber-talented NYC artist Akie Bermiss back in 2014, but we haven’t heard much from him since. But the Bard College alum is back with new music that reminds of why we fell for him in the first place. The singer, songwriter and keyboardist creates a “live” feel in everything he does, giving an immediacy to his music that is palpable.

“Knowher(e)” begins with a solo Fender and popping fingers, before Mr. Bermiss begins his jazzy, complicated tale of a woman who he finds both irresistible and dangerous. It is the first single from the new EP entitled #basedonatruestory, a collection produced by Mister Goldfinger aka Ray Angry (of The World-Famous Roots Crew), and featuring Mark Whitfield (D'Angelo, Chris Botti) on guitar, Frederic Yonnet (Stevie Wonder, Dave Chapelle's Band with No Name) on harmonica, and Angry on organ.

Akie tells us about the collection: "First and foremost, I consider my music to be soul music. I try to move people, both physically and emotionally. My music goes all over the map from jazz to r&b to tin-pan alley, but I hope all of it connects to each listener. I want each song to tell a story and each show to be a journey. ‘Knowher(e)’ is based on one of several true stories told in song on this project, hence the title of the new EP. I hope you enjoy it."

We absolutely do! And we think SoulTrackers will too. Check out “Knowher(e)” and welcome back Akie Bermiss.
