First Listen: Alicia Keys and Khalid are "So Done"

    (August 31, 2020) Alicia Keys and Khalid have similar career arcs. Both took the music world by storm coming out of the box, albeit 16 years apart. Keys debut project, 2001’s Songs in A Minor, won five Grammy Awards. Khalid’s American Teenager received five Grammy nominations and both albums featured songs, in Key’s “Fallen” and Khalid’s “Location,” that went on to become a part of the soundtracks of those years.

    Now, the two have collaborated on “So Done,” a track from Keys’ upcoming album Alicia, which is not due to drop until December. However, she gives us a preview of this song and the associated video. “So Done” is a song about being true to yourself. Adopting a relaxed pace, Keys and Khalid tell the story of a person who is over trying to adapt to the expectations and beliefs of others and is ready to step into their own truth, regardless of consequences.

    In the video, which takes the form of a coming out story set at a prom, kids dance and pose for selfies with their dates or their friends. One girl, played by actress Sasha Lane, strolls alone into the midst of festivities. It appears that she is looking for her date, but her date is not there. That person makes a grand appearance later and allows the young lady to announce to the world her truth. Check the video for “So Done” here.
