(October 13, 2020) If an aspiring artist had to choose between working in a family business or touring across the world, flexing her musical savvy, she would most certainly would select the latter option.  For singer/songwriter Alli’ Starr, the opportunities were endless as a supporting vocalist for Phil Perry, Ronnie Laws and others while occasionally headlining her own shows.  Despite a heart condition that was diagnosed in 2015, Starr persevered with her career choice -- continuing to build her musical connections.

One of those special friendships, with veteran R&B vocalist/producer Chuckii Booker, resulted in an entertaining collaboration for Starr’s latest single.  Her First Listen debut, “Situationship” (Expansion Records) relays an all too familiar story of love’s double-edged sword in a ‘seem so right, yet oh so wrong’ scenario.  But Booker’s bossa nova orchestrations inject an enticing one-two punch after the mildly tense cinematic introduction.

With strong assistance by a symphony orchestra and the Spanish guitar solos from Ben Mauro, Starr’s sexy and sweet soprano convincingly paints conflicting feelings behind her romantic decisions.  While she has recorded sporadically in the past, we hope that “Situationship” will mark the beginning of more regular releases from this talent -- who absolutely made the correct call for her career.
