(January 28, 2021) In theory, it seems so simple: Put together a rhythm section that establishes a steady infectious groove, insert a well written love song, and bring in a top notch vocalist to tie it all together up front. And yet…recent history has shown that that kind of adult soul song is sometimes a precious commodity. But producer and bass player Andrew Ford has done just that on his latest single, “More Love,” featuring vocalist Lauren Evans.
Ford has had a long career supporting such artists as Al Jarreau, Whitney Houston and Chaka Khan, and we found him through his work with longtime ST fave Lynne Fiddmont. But now he is moving to the front of the stage with his debut album, Muzik 4 The Soul. And like Fiddmont (who co-wrote “More Love”), Ford has a keen understanding of the power of the song and how it is delivered to adult audiences.
“More Love” hits the right notes, beginning with the lyrical direction. “Love is an action word, that is what the song is all about,” says Ford. “Everybody likes to hear that they are loved, but how much more powerful is it to show somebody we love them. We are not always going to agree, especially about things like politics and religion, but we can still respond with respect and compassion. No big me and little you, that’s the concept behind spreading ‘More Love’.”
