(April 26, 2021) Americans, who supposedly left all of that royal family business behind in 1776, still want to install dynasties. If a politician has children, all of the pundits wonder if that daughter or son will grab the mantle when the elder politician leaves the scene. Sometimes, the next generation is up to the task. Usually, they are not. The same thing also happens in business. The famous name opens the door just wide enough for next generation to scurry in and once they’re there, they’re there – whether they deserve to be there or not.

That’s not the way it works in music and sports. The Currys and Mannings of the world aren’t going to get by simply because dad or mom played in the pros. They have to demonstrate that they can deliver. Musicians like Curtis ‘Binky’ Womack also have to prove themselves worthy successors to the family business. Binky has set about doing just that, first by being an apt pupil who learned what his legendary father and uncles had to teach him, and then by doing the work as a much in-demand musician for a who’s who of R&B, pop and hip-hop acts.

For the last few years, he’s stepped out on his own as a guitarist, songwriter and lead vocalist, and his new jam, “Vitaman B,” is one that fans of that good soul singing will love. “Vitaman B” goes through the music ala carte line and grabs soul influences here, gospel and doo-wop harmonies there and some southern soul storytelling about a man who has the kind of medicine that will be healing balm for a loved starved woman. With “Vitaman B,” Binky Womack offers himself up as the remedy for any fella looking for a love breakthrough. Check out “Vitaman B” here.
