First Listen: The Black Bettys show their cool attitude on "U Belong 2 Me"

(October 23, 2021) In a very short period, the Atlanta based duo The Black Bettys made their presence and talent known alongside Gerald Levert, Keith Sweat and many others. But since 2019, identical twins Sherie and Sherita Murphy have beenmoving to the front of the stage and are carving their star quality in the R&B/soul market with tracks showcasing their flexible voices and harmonies, such as the reggae fueled “Waitin’” and a remix of “Real Love (Real Good)” - loosely based on Mary J Blige’s “Real Love.”

Now, a new track registers on the hit radio radar, as the duo drops a special salute to one of their ultimate heroes, Aretha Franklin, on their debut First Listen appearance, “U Belong 2 Me.”

Besides possessing a back-in-the-day soulful punch reminiscent of Aretha’s Atlantic Records era, even the 45 Vinyl logo resembles the iconic label with the verbiage Atlanta.  Additional kudos belong to “U Belong 2 Me” producer Rodney Edge for recruiting ATL’s cream of the crop musicians accompanying The Black Bettys in a confident sassy performance.

Penned by Sherita Murphy and legendary singer/songwriter Kipper Jones, the self-released U Belong 2 Me persuasively speaks for itself:  “So, I get it/They can't help it 'cause you're fine/But at the end of the day/They got to understand that you're mine.”

It will be interesting whether The Black Bettys’ upcoming debut full-length release sticks to the old soul way or leans more toward their R&B/hip-hop approach.  In the meantime, listen up to “U Belong 2 Me.”
