(May 16, 2023) Bootsy Collins and the entire P-Funk family often placed profound messages in songs that drew people to the dance floor like magnets. And now Collins brings out his bass and collaborates with some big-name friends to promote an anti-violence message on his new song “Funk Not Fight.”

The message could not be timelier when it seems a week doesn’t go by without news of mass shooting occurring somewhere in the country. Collins acknowledges that he wants “Funk Not Fight” to become a fun and funky anti-violence anthem, and he hopes the tune will spark a further conversation about the violence that makes active shooter drills a part of the educational process: “We just wanna calm down some of that violence out there. Cause y’all know that it ain’t right! Come on now. Jump on board. Let’s get the One! For being funk, and not fight.”

The song is a banger that includes a super charged bass line. That should not be surprising because Bootsy is a bass legend, but he’s joined by the equally legendary Marcus Miller, and Victor Wooten. That’s a lot of bottom! And add to that legendary guitarist Marlon McClain and you have an all-star cast.

Collins has elevated to the height of music elder statesman, and he uses “Funk Not Fight” and the upcoming album by the same title as a platform to showcase up and coming artists, who contributed original work to the project.

Additionally, proceeds from the album will support anti-violence initiative across the nation. Check out “Funk Not Fight” here.
