(May 12, 2020) He gets a ringing endorsement than none other than the legendary Lionel Richie, and when the Nigerian American singer UCHé (pronounced U-chay) looks for musical direction, he finds it by looking to masters such as Prince, James Brown, Michael Jackson, George Clinton, Rick James and Bootsy Collins, just to name a few.
Richie became an UCHé fan during Season 17 of American Idol where Richie is a judge and UCHé was a contestant. To say Richie came away impressed would be an understatement. Richie raved about UCHé’s powerful, emotive and rangy voice, as well as his magnetic stage presence.

UCHé displays that voice on his new single, the funky pounder, “Whatever,” that teams the vocalist with another one of his idols, legendary bassist Bootsy Collins. “Whatever” combines the driving, pounding bass line that has the feel of a funky march, with tightly harmonized horns and jangling, bluesy guitars. The track is topped off with UCHé showing that he is as adept at deploying his vocal instrument at upbeat funk as the power ballads that he performed on American Idol. Check out “Whatever” here.
