(September 15, 2019) Of all of the artists we cover at SoulTracks, one of the toughest to categorize is singer and songwriter Brian Owens. When we introduced him to SoulTrackers seven years ago, he came across as an old school soul man with a killer vocal instrument. But over the years he has shown himself to be incredibly versatile and musically curious, teaming with legendary vocalist Michael McDonald on the socially conscious Soul of Ferguson, dueting with Japanese soul sensation Nao Yoshioka on the peppy “Love Love,” taking on a country music icon's catalog on Soul of Cash, and providing a touching cover with his father of Sam Cooke’s "A Change Is Gonna Come."

Brian is preparing a new album that will be released in early 2020, and is also preparing to team with legendary vocalist Michael McDonald on Sept. 29 in their hometown of Ferguson, Missouri as part of the "A Night For Life" celebration concert honoring McDonald's music and career.

As we get ready for Brian’s new album, he has released a simply beautiful new single that is touching us – poetry about the challenges of parenthood to which many of us can relate. Brian says, “’Carry You’ was written at a time that my family was experiencing one of the most challenging seasons we have ever encountered. In particular, my wife and I and a young man who we have come to know and love as our very own son. Originally, my co-writer, Tony Esterly, reached out to create a song inspired by the trials and perseverance of being a world class athlete, but from the perspective of the parents or coaches that walk with them through that process. Little did I know that I would end up writing a letter to my son in his time of trial. For my wife and I, the most difficult times in parenting have been those moments when we see our children in distress and have seemingly no tangible solution. And then, our father, the Heavenly father, reminds us that those who carry others also need to be carried and that He is the great Carrier of us all. His presence, love and assurance would ultimately be the answer, and we passed that love on to our son.

We think that you’re going to love “Carry You” as much as we do. Check it out below.
