(April 30, 2020) Soul and love man Calvin Richardson said that he learned a lot from the women who raised and grew up with him. He listened to them as well as watched and observed them, and he believes that has given him insight into the thoughts, motivations and moods of a woman - at least as much insight as it is possible for a man to have.

Fortunately, Richardson has decided to use that knowledge for good purposes. Notably, Richardson uses his tenor to inject the kind of old-fashioned romance and traditional gentlemanly mannerisms that many people say are missing in our more cynical and hardened times.  An old soul, Richardson draws inspiration from legendary soul men such as Sam Cooke, Donny Hathaway, Otis Redding and Bobby Womack, an artist Richardson honored with a tribute album in 2009.

Richardson opens his latest single, “If You’re Thinking About Leaving,” with the line that “this is not just another love song.” The track is a bluesy number that also contains the elements of call and response harmonies found in the church, but that is not what distinguishes “If You’re Thinking About Leaving” from other love songs.

“If You’re Thinking About Leaving” is a track that finds Richardson telling a story of realizing that his woman is looking to make a move, and he tries to clear up any misunderstanding while also letting her know how crucial it is for him to keep her in his life.
