(June 27, 2019) Rob Carvalho is the Jack of all Trades who somehow manages to master them all. He works at a high level as a band leader and a sideman who has played bass, flute and keyboards at various points in his career for various bands. Carvalho stars as a lead vocalist, who can sing R&B and reggae, among other styles. If Carvalho played baseball, they’d say he’s a five tool-player – the kind of guy who never leaves the field.

On “Mystical,” Carvalho’s new single from his soon to be released EP Hope’s Journey, he goes deep into the groove on a funky ballad where he adopts the language of the transcendental to explain the hold that a woman has over him. Vocally, the track finds the singer adopting a tone that is both conversational and stream of consciousness. The arrangement is stripped down with keyboards floating over percussions and a sensually funky bass line and provides ample space for Carvalho’s flights of vocal fancy.

Carvalho wants people to know that Hope’s Journey is just the appetizer. Watermelon Smiles, the full-length album will follow soon thereafter. Check out “Mystical” here.
