Based in DC, he’s been a producer, bandleader and musician who has worked with many artists, and has success in particular as part of the group N-Groove. But, until now, he’s never been featured on his own release.
World Premiere First Listen: Cedric Givens finds an “Old Skool Love”
He’s been around for awhile, but you may not know him. He is multi-instrumentalist Cedric Givens. Based in DC, he’s been a producer, bandleader and musician who has worked with many artists, and has success in particular as part of the group N-Groove. But, until now, he’s never been featured on his own release.
Well, that’s changing in a big way with his first single release, “Old Skool Love.” Featuring Ragan Whiteside, the song is an adult soul gem with more than a touch of jazz. Cedric tells us: “The song concept came as an amalgamation of the dating experiences of my friends and me. As individuals dating later in life, we all encountered online dating shenanigans and crazy dates. I wanted to lyrically paint a picture of simpler times and the budding of relationships from a more natural organic place. Since, I’m lyrically challenged I enlisted the help of Ragan Whiteside who is better known as flautist but I wanted to feature her as a vocalist. I sent her the music I had recorded and the lyrical concept. She knocked the tune out of the park. She wrote the lyrics, recorded all of the lead and background vocals as well as the flute adlibs. I also had some of my other notable friends perform with me on the tune. Everyone did great work.“
