First Listen: Chante Moore misses with "Real One"

(February 10, 2017) Longtime SoulTrackers know we love our Chante Moore. The beautiful songstress with the as-good-as-it-gets soprano voice has always had the chops, and usually has had good material to go with it.

So we were excited to hear Ms. Chante was readying a new album, The Rise of The Phoenix, as she approaches the big 5-0. And if the first single, “Real One,” is any indication, she’s aiming her career at a much younger audience than her core fans. Between the hip-hop influenced beat and the awkwardly contrived "young" lyricism (including the conscious throw of the n-word in spots), this one may be a bit unnerving for longtime Chante-philes.

Chante sings so well she almost rescues the song on the bridge, but alas, to us this one is a trend-chasing miss. We still love her, but not so much this song. Check it out below and tell us what you think.
