First Listen: Conya Doss helps Frank Simmons III's "Language"

(March 4, 2018) We first heard Detroit-based composer, musician and producer Frank Simmons III three years ago when he issued his excellent debut album The Chocolate Noise Effect. Over the years, Frank has balanced his own solo career with his support work for such artists as jazz trumpeter Lin Rountree.

Frank has now returned with another tasty project featuring Rountree as well as some of the great indie soul vocalists around. Blacksuite is fantastic listening for lovers of both soul music and smooth jazz, and provides some much needed nighttime grooves.

One of the cuts from the album that is hitting us is a jazzy ballad that features the sensual vocals of longtime SoulTracks fave Conya Doss. It’s a song about figuring out whether the one you’re with is truly showing you the respect and love that will lead to something special: “You asked me how to know if love is real / it’s simple as the things he says to you.

With this song and album, Frank Simmons III again shows he is an artist on the rise, and one whom SoulTrackers should definitely check out. Start with “Language of Love” below. We think you’ll be hooked.
