First Listen: Crutchfield Jones feels a "Cloudy" love

(January 19, 2023) When the timing is right, long-lasting friendships in the music making business can lead to happy endings.  Lead singers Shireen Crutchfield (The Good Girls) and Ricky Jones (Yours Truly) met around 30 years ago as artists and songwriters with Motown Records. When their Motown stint ended, Shireen and Ricky built upon their friendship before their life circle changed directions careerwise (Ricky recording several solo albums and Shireen’s modeling and acting) and in raising families.  Twenty years later after dissolved marriages, Shireen and Ricky circled back to rekindle their friendship that blossomed into marriage, fueled by their adoration of music’s magnetic power.

Their new chapter as recording artists began with two singles, including “Queen Appeal” - weaving inspiration from Babyface and Sade.  In their SoulTracks bow, we welcome Shireen and Ricky to First Listen with the ballad, “Cloudy” from the debut E.P., Welcome to the Crutchfield Project.  The storyline flows from the ‘cloudy’ side of marriages, while instilling hope that the sunny side wins out. Producer Ervin E.P Pope (Jay-Z, Janet Jackson) drops a winning backdrop with his delicate keyboard strokes aligning with the soulful sensual interaction of Shireen and Ricky.  Though “Cloudy” drops the romantic fire and desire, there is a resounding lesson on how to persevere through any relationship storm that comes one’s way. Listen up to Shireen and Ricky’s love forecast!
