If there is anything we know for sure, it’s that we’re in a time when we should be talking more about getting together than about going our separate ways. And that spirit underlies the upcoming album from keyboardist and producer David Garfield, who brings together artists from around the world for his Holidays Outside the Box.

For this ambitious disc, Garfield invites members of Chicago, Pablo Cruise, Santana, Yellowjackets, War, Jimmy Buffet’s Coral Reefer Band, Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers and The Rippingtons – some of whom participated virtually during the midst of the pandemic.

“When I envisioned this holiday album I was thinking of how I could promote peace, spread love and bring the people of this world we’re all living in together,” says Garfield. “Having traveled the world from top to bottom, I was blessed with so many musical friends to collaborate with on this project of global unity.”

For our newest First Listen, we’re focusing on Garfield’s stylish new take on the classic Christmas song, “Oh Holy Night.” Featuring former Chicago lead singer Jason Scheff and Pablo Cruise’s Robbie Wyckoff, the song bears an easygoing vibe, lying somewhere between urban adult contemporary and Yacht Rock. And it certainly gives this Winter holiday chestnut a touch of Summer warmth.

For us, this is a nice introduction to the holiday season, and to an album that intentionally gives a sense of worldwide unity at a time we need it. Check it out.
