(February 22, 2019) Pronounced Dee Arr King, DR’s name often gets mistaken as some kind of tribute to the right honourable Reverend Dr. King. “I always correct them,” Says DR “I say ‘It’s DR King, you know, like the Dominican Republic!’” The irony being that should MLK have ever tried his hand at soul balladry, lyrically it might just have had a similar theme to that of DR’s brilliant new single “Crying Alone” in that, like the great man’s words, it speaks of inequality, unnecessary war and the need for more love and peace.

Produced by Grammy winner Marc Swersky (Gedeon Luke, Joe Cocker) who co-wrote “Crying Alone” with Brielle Brown and Gedeon Luke, the song appears on DR King’s brand new 6 song debut e.p. It’s My Life (also released 2/22 via Monocentric/OneRPM - see link below).

“When I first heard “Crying Alone” I thought it was beautiful, really dope.” Says King. “It’s got that ’What’s Going On’ vibe - that message. So I got my band and we messed around with it a little bit and when we now perform live its most people’s favourite song.” Hard on the heels of the gospeldelic funk of last single “Gravedigger,” DR King is displaying the vocal versatility that had him recently enjoy a successful run on NBC show The Voice.
