(November 18, 2021) One of the coolest things in music is to hear songs about…you guessed it, music. All music lovers know how it feels to want to block out the noise of life and just immerse themselves in song.  The artists who create the music we listen to are no different.

One such artist is Detroit-based vocalist Erica Johnson, a self-proclaimed “inspirational soul singer” who aims to “lift your spirits and add a sparkle of hope to your day” through her music.  Influenced by the likes of The Clark Sisters, India.Arie, and Michael and Janet Jackson, Erica’s soulful sound has been shaped by her rich church roots, black culture, and a love for real music with a genuine message.

In her latest single, “I Just Want the Music, Erica’s message is her love of music. In the chorus, she sings, in part: “I want the rhythm and the melody ‘cause that’s what makes me happy.”  Who of us can’t relate to that sentiment? Speaking of the rhythm and the melody, Erica played the flute on this song in addition to co-writing the lyrics. Her voice just seems to float seamlessly throughout this groovy track that you can snap your fingers to.

“I Just Want the Music” comes from Erica’s newly released third album, Life, Love and Inspiration, which she produced along with her husband, Emanuel Johnson II, son of Enchantment lead singer, Emanuel “EJ” Johnson.
