(July 9, 2016) SoulTrackers know that we are huge fans of singer, songwriter and musician, Frank McComb. He was one of the first winners of the SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Awards, and he has been a regular on our pages over the last decade. We are really excited to share with SoulTrackers an upcoming Listening Room for Frank’s brilliant new album, Soulmates: Another Love Story, which is due on July 15. It acts as a sequel of sorts to Frank’s iconic debut album, Love Stories, and reminds us all again what his music has meant to us.

But first...we’re just as proud to present a World Premiere of one of the cuts from the album. “Feelin’ Some Kinda Way” is a smooth, groovy track where Frank is helped by two talented friends, Najee and Avery*Sunshine.

But first...we’re just as proud to present a World Premiere of one of the cuts from the album. “Feelin’ Some Kinda Way” is a smooth, groovy track where Frank is helped by two talented friends, Najee and Avery*Sunshine.

Frank tells us the story of the songs: A few years ago I received 3 or 4 mp3’s from Avery*Sunshine after having a 30 minute phone conversation with her about working together on a song. These mp3’s were rough ideas she and her husband Dana had been tossing around. Though there was nothing wrong with the other song ideas, I happen to come across one that really stood out, with Dana playing guitar and Avery*Sunshine singing the words “Feelin’ Some Kinda Way” repeatedly.

Also during this time I had just received my new Korg Kronos 88 that was shipped to me from Korg Electronics as I, along with Herbie Hancock and the late George Duke, had just worked with them on developing some of the electric piano sounds for it. There was no better time to put my new piano to use, “Feelin’ Some Kinda Way” was the first song I recorded in the sequencer of my Korg Kronos 88 using the electric piano developed by George Duke. Avery*Sunshine had already written the chorus so I finished it up by writing the verses, arranging the music and in 2 days the recording and my vocals were finished. Over time, Avery*Sunshine was able to find a minute from touring to make a cameo appearance on the song and on June 25, 2016 I was blessed with the opportunity to have Grammy nominated and award winning saxophonist/flautist Najee play on it in my hotel room at the Aliante Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, just hours before our concert later that evening. Thanks Avery*Sunshine, thanks Najee, thanks Korg and thank YOU for taking the time to read this.McComb.

It’s a great background story, and the song is even better. Enjoy “Feelin’ Some Kinda Way,” and get ready for more Frank McComb!
